Shatter is a form of marijuana concentrate produced by extracting cannabinoids (THC/CBD), terpenoids and flavonoids from the marijuana plant matter. The extraction process begins with running a butane solvent through the marijuana buds at high temperature and pressure. Then the excess solvent is evaporated, plant material is removed, and the remaining resin is collected. Waxes and hash oil are also produced this way, what distinguishes shatter from these other forms of marijuana concentrate is the way it is treated after extraction. When it comes to shatter, the resin is left to cool into a translucent, hard, and brittle sheet which is what gives shatter its name.
